The Coqualeetza Complex

Item is a photograph of the Coqualeetza Complex, with the French sign, "Le Projet Coqualeetza - Section des Services Medicaux, Ministère de la Santé Nationale et du Bien-Être Social."

In early 1971, the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs negotiated with the federal government to turn over the former Coqualeetza Residential School to B.C. First Nations peoples for the establishment of an educational and cultural centre known then as the Coqualeetza Project complex. In 1973, UBCIC turned over the complex to the East Fraser District Council, who established the Coqualeetza Indian Education Training Centre Society.
