Scope and contents

Item is a photograph of a British Columbia Wildlife Federation (BCWF) meeting held at Marco Hall. Photograph is an interior snapshot of the head table where three men are seated. On the table is a microphone set in a table stand plugged into an audio cassette recorder, loose papers, a gavel, glasses of water, a metal carafe, a tin ashtray, and a microphone resting on the table. The two men on the left side are wearing a suit and tie, the man on the right, who is partially seen, is wearing a turtle neck shirt. The man seated on the left side of the table is holding a pen and looking down at the papers on the table. The man in the centre has his legs crossed and is resting one hand on his lap and the other on his knee, he is looking down. The man seated on the right side of the table is looking to the man standing next to the table on the left. He has short hair and horn rimmed glasses and is wearing a snap closured windbreaker with a patch on the breast reading in part "...EDERATION...MEMBER". His foot is resting on the chair platform and he has his arms folded in front of him holding his fingertips together.

Context

The B.C. Wildlife Federation held a meeting on January 19th, 1979 to discuss the depletion of salmon. Hugh Anderson, Parliamentary Secretary to Hugh Faulkner, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, spoke at the event in support of the Aboriginal Right to food fishing. Discussions were held regarding the depletion of salmon stocks through the commercial fishing industry and industrial pollution. UBCIC, the Musqueam Indian Band, the Squamish Nation, and the United Native Nations were in attendance.
