Central Interior Conference (1978)
- Title
- Central Interior Conference (1978)
- Description
- The Central Interior Regional Conference was held on July 25th to 27th to elect a new UBCIC Vice-President and discuss current issues. 36 delegates, Chiefs and Councillors representing the Lillooet-Lytton, Thompson-Nicola, Okanagan, and Kootenay districts were in attendance, as well as students and observers from around British Columbia and guests from the Colville Tribes in Washington. Workshops were held in the evenings on fishing, social development, Indian Government, energy and resources, and education.
- A Working Committee for the Central Interior Tribal Council was formed during this meeting, with the intention of investigating alternative methods of providing services to Bands. They drafted a work plan, which was presented at the CITC meeting on February 19th to 20th, 1979. 75 delegates from Bands in the area met and looked at the first draft, laying out long and short-term goals for the transfer of services and programs from the DIA to Indian Band Control.
