Item is a photograph of the Tahsis Company Ltd. pulp mill at Gold River, British Columbia. The photograph is a snapshot of the active mill producing billowing clouds of smoke. In the foreground of the image there is a log boom in the water in front of the mill.

Context

Gold River was constructed in the 1960s to house families for the newly constructed Tahsis Company Ltd. pulp mill, located where the mouth of the Gold River meets Muchalat Inlet. Pollution from the pulp mill soon became a problem causing health issues for nearby residents and interfering with fishing. The Tahsis Company Ltd. pulp mill no longer exists.
