- Item is a photograph of a Demonstration at BC Hydro against the proposed coal-fired power plant in Hat Creek. Photograph is an interior snapshot of people seated around a board table. George Manuel is seated on the central right side of the table; most of the people's attention is on him. He has short wavy hair and horn rimmed glasses and is wearing a Cowichan type sweater. He has papers on the table before him; he is looking towards the front of the room. As he speaks, a man wearing a light coloured trench coat holds a microphone in front of Manuel, on which are the letters of the radio station "CKWX", there is another microphone held in to him, it is unmarked. Another man wearing a similar trench coat is standing to the left of Manuel, he is writing in a notebook, and carrying something attached to a dark shoulder strap. Men wearing business suits are standing in the left and right backgrounds. In the front of the room are two flip charts, on the wall above the analogue clock reads approximately 3:43. On this wall are panels, the one on the left reads "RAIL" with the image of a locomotive beneath. The other panel reads "TRANSIT" under which is a poster of two buses parked side by side. On the right side wall is a sign reading "HAT CREEK" with indiscernible pictures beneath.

- B.C. Hydro proposed the development of a coal-powered power plant in Hat Creek, B.C., known as the "Hat Creek Project". The proposed site was close to Bonaparte Reserve, Cornwall, Pavilion, Deadman’s Creek, Fountain and Bridge River Reserves. Concerns arose regarding the environmental impacts and the imposition of inherent Aboriginal water rights.
